Why dry carbon on the G80 / G82
Wet-layup carbon is cheaper, but it's heavier and it yellows after a couple of summers of UV. Our G80 and G82 parts are pre-preg dry carbon fiber, cured under heat and pressure for a lighter panel, a crisp 2x2 twill weave, and a clear coat that holds up. On a car already carrying an inline-six and, on xDrive models, all-wheel-drive hardware, pulling mass off the trunk lid changes how the tail feels — it isn't just a photo upgrade.
CSL trunk lid vs stock
The stock G80/G82 trunk is steel with a subtle lip. The CSL-style carbon trunk lid drops weight behind the rear axle and adds a duck-tail profile that sharpens the rear three-quarter and adds a little downforce at speed. It's the single most transformative exterior part on this platform: visible from every angle, functional, and it addresses the one area BMW left conservative.
Fitment and installation
